Staff Founding Engineer

About the role

This is a Staff Android Engineer (Founding) opportunity with a fast-growing US mental health platform focused on making care more effective and accessible. The business runs a three-sided marketplace connecting patients, clinicians and insurance payors, with around 15 million therapy sessions started on the platform. The iOS app has already launched, and this role builds the native Android app from scratch, setting the technical direction from day one across architecture, developer experience and the first production release. You’ll design the Android foundations, including project structure, state management, build, testing and release infrastructure, and ship consumer-facing features that help patients find care, connect with providers and manage their care between sessions. You’ll set coding standards and tooling that the next Android engineers will build on, own the path to production through CI/CD, Google Play releases and observability, and partner with product, design, iOS and backend teams. The role reports to the Director of Engineering for the Momentum pillar. The ideal candidate will have 8+ years’ software engineering experience, mostly in native Android with Kotlin, and has led Android technical direction from zero to one or through a major re-architecture. Production experience with Jetpack Compose, coroutines and Flow, dependency injection and modularisation is expected, along with strong product instincts and everyday use of AI development tools. Experience in regulated or healthcare settings, a view on Kotlin Multiplatform, and experience growing an Android team would be advantageous. This is a hybrid position with three days a week in the office (Tuesday to Thursday), in New York or San Francisco, suited to a senior engineer who wants to own a greenfield mobile product end to end. We're looking for someone curious, pragmatic, and eager to work across the stack with a small senior team. You'll own end-to-end delivery of major features, influence architecture, and mentor engineers.
