Engineering Manager
Garner Health · New York, NY
About the role
This is an Engineering Manager opportunity with a fast-growing US healthtech business that partners with employers to steer members towards higher-quality doctors and lower-cost care. The role leads the Business Productivity team, which improves the efficiency of the company’s internal business units by building AI into their core workflows. It reports to the VP of Platform Engineering and offers a direct line between the software you ship and how the wider business operates. You’ll lead, mentor and grow an engineering team through coaching, feedback and hiring, and work with internal business units to find high-impact opportunities and deliver features end to end. You’ll drive delivery of AI-native solutions, own core services and keep them secure and reliable, balance quality against speed, and set the technical direction for a roadmap covering AI adoption, employee efficiency and foundational improvements. The stack includes Python, TypeScript, React, Node.js, Postgres and AWS. The ideal candidate will have 6+ years’ hands-on engineering experience and 2+ years in engineering management, with experience building web applications and APIs on cloud infrastructure. They will have an ownership mindset, the ability to turn non-technical stakeholders’ workflows into technical solutions, and experience in a startup or other fast-moving, high-accountability environment. This is an in-office role in New York City, three days a week (Tuesday to Thursday), suited to a manager who wants to apply AI to real internal workflows and build a team around it. We're looking for someone curious, pragmatic, and eager to work across the stack with a small senior team. You'll own end-to-end delivery of major features, influence architecture, and mentor engineers.
