Staff Software Engineer

About the role

This is a Staff Software Engineer opportunity with a fast-growing US healthtech business that partners with employers to steer members towards higher-quality doctors and lower-cost care. The role sits in Engineering, on a team building the systems that analyse medical records to rank healthcare providers. It is a senior technical leadership position, setting direction for the team and raising the engineering bar across the organisation. You’ll lead team-level technical strategy and execution over multi-quarter horizons, use AI to build, optimise and maintain software, and develop engineers around you. You’ll collaborate across disciplines to understand the domain and iterate on projects, and protect user privacy and security. The stack includes Python, TypeScript, React, Go, Airflow, dbt, Kubernetes and Claude Code. The ideal candidate will have 6+ years’ software engineering experience, experience leading engineering teams with real influence on technical strategy, and a demonstrated ability to build complex systems with AI coding agents. A generalist mindset, a quick learning curve, a record of mentoring and familiarity with data security and HIPAA are expected. This is an in-office role in New York City, three days a week (Tuesday to Thursday), suited to a staff-level engineer who leads through technical judgement and example. We're looking for someone curious, pragmatic, and eager to work across the stack with a small senior team. You'll own end-to-end delivery of major features, influence architecture, and mentor engineers.
