Senior Backend Engineer
Nourish · San Francisco Bay Area, CA; Remote (US)
About the role
This is a Senior Backend Engineer opportunity with a Series C US digital health business offering dietitian-led, insurance-covered metabolic health care across all 50 states. The role sits on an early-stage engineering team, helping to shape the core platform, owning major parts of the codebase and leading project delivery across product, design, engineering and analytics. It reports to the Engineering Manager of your pod (Operations or Platform). You’ll build and ship features quickly without sacrificing quality, develop, release and maintain backend services and infrastructure, and improve the processes, tools and systems that let the codebase and team scale. You’ll take part in estimation and planning, collaborate on data-driven experiments, and write clean, well-tested, high-performance code. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years as a backend-focused software engineer, ideally building high-performance internal platforms, and 3+ years with the core stack or a strong willingness to cross-train. The stack is TypeScript, Node.js, Prisma, PostgreSQL and AWS. They will take projects from idea to implementation independently, think from first principles and care about end-to-end product work. This is a hybrid position from the San Francisco office, with remote candidates also welcome, suited to an engineer who wants real ownership in a fast-growing company. We're looking for someone curious, pragmatic, and eager to work across the stack with a small senior team. You'll own end-to-end delivery of major features, influence architecture, and mentor engineers.
What you'll do
- Ship customer-facing features on a weekly cadence.
- Partner with design and product on scoping and trade-offs.
