Director of Data Science / Machine Learning

About the role

This is a Director of Data Science and Machine Learning opportunity with a growing Series B New York health tech business that uses AI orchestration to improve revenue cycle management for healthcare providers. The role is a strategic technical leadership position that owns the development, implementation and governance of AI and machine learning across the company, sitting between data science, engineering, product and healthcare. You’ll set and execute the AI and ML strategy, balancing long-term initiatives with quick wins in revenue cycle management, and lead and mentor the data science and machine learning teams. You’ll establish an AI governance framework covering healthcare regulation such as HIPAA and FDA requirements, design scalable production-ready architectures, drive MLOps practice for deploying and monitoring models, and quantify the customer value of AI solutions for Product, Engineering, Sales and Customer Success. The ideal candidate will have 8+ years’ AI and ML experience, with substantial exposure to healthcare technology or clinical workflows and a proven record of taking models and products from concept to production in complex environments. Experience leading data science and engineering teams, translating technical capability into business value, and a working understanding of healthcare AI regulation and ethical AI principles are expected. The company is based in New York City, suited to a leader who combines technical depth with commercial judgement. We're looking for someone curious, pragmatic, and eager to work across the stack with a small senior team. You'll own end-to-end delivery of major features, influence architecture, and mentor engineers.
