About the role

This is a Senior Data Engineer opportunity with a Series B health tech business building an AI doctor that offers free AI consultations and low-cost physician visits. It is the company’s first dedicated data engineer, owning the movement of data from production systems into the lakehouse and warehouse, its transformation into trusted documented tables, and access control, for AI engineering, product, finance, partnerships and data teams. You’ll build monitored change-data-capture pipelines from production databases into an S3 and Iceberg lake and Snowflake, set up a version-controlled transformation layer such as dbt for core metrics like visits, bookings, revenue and retention, and select and implement orchestration with failure alerting. You’ll design and enforce patient data access controls, including row and column-level PHI restrictions, anonymisation pipelines and HIPAA Safe Harbor compliance, and support the AI team’s model training data needs. Sources include MariaDB, PostgreSQL and MongoDB. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of data engineering experience, including end-to-end ownership of production data platforms, strong SQL and Python, and experience building and running ELT and CDC pipelines. Hands-on experience with a lakehouse and warehouse stack (S3, Iceberg, Snowflake or equivalent), orchestration and transformation frameworks, and solid AWS fundamentals are expected. HIPAA and PHI governance experience and having been the first data engineer at a startup would be advantageous. This is a hybrid position in New York City. We're looking for someone curious, pragmatic, and eager to work across the stack with a small senior team. You'll own end-to-end delivery of major features, influence architecture, and mentor engineers.
