Head of AI
Osmo · Boston, MA
About the role
This is a Head of Applied AI opportunity with a digital olfaction company whose mission is to give computers a sense of smell. The role leads the team that builds the company’s Olfactory Intelligence models, which predict odour for molecules and mixtures and generate formulas from creative briefs. It is a hands-on leadership seat at a company of roughly 100 people. You’ll lead machine learning engineers and research scientists, set the roadmap and quality bar, and own the path from research notebook to production API. You’ll work daily with Software Platform, Product Engineering, Chemistry and Sensory Science, and with the perfumers and evaluators who provide ground truth for predictions, and you’ll be responsible for meeting contractual accuracy gates with enterprise partners. The team works from large proprietary datasets, including millions of human sniff annotations and mass spectral readings. The posting does not state years of experience, but it expects a technical leader who will read code and run experiments and who reports to the CTO. This is a Boston-based role in the sheet, though the company’s listed locations are in New Jersey and Massachusetts, so confirm the location before approaching candidates. It suits a research-minded ML leader who wants to take models from lab to product. We're looking for someone curious, pragmatic, and eager to work across the stack with a small senior team. You'll own end-to-end delivery of major features, influence architecture, and mentor engineers.
What you'll do
- Ship customer-facing features on a weekly cadence.
- Partner with design and product on scoping and trade-offs.
- Drive technical quality through review, testing, and docs.
- Mentor one or two engineers on your team.
