About the role

This is a Senior Backend Engineer opportunity with a Seed-stage US health data company that runs a patient-powered real-world data platform, helping people access their longitudinal health records and supplying insights to pharma. The role builds backend services and data pipelines for healthcare data and integrates LLM-based AI features. You’ll develop high-volume data processing pipelines, integrate and optimise LLM components, and build observability including monitoring, logging, alerting and autoscaling. You’ll work with frontend, data and AI teams. The stack involves Python, Node.js or Java, a major cloud (AWS, GCP or Azure), relational databases and LLMs. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent and 5+ years in backend development, including distributed systems, with strong skill in Python, Node.js or Java, experience with REST APIs, microservices and relational databases, and at least 2 years in a startup. Message queues, data streaming, vector databases, RAG tooling, FHIR and healthcare interoperability would be advantageous. This is a remote US position, suited to a backend engineer who wants to work on health data at scale. We're looking for someone curious, pragmatic, and eager to work across the stack with a small senior team. You'll own end-to-end delivery of major features, influence architecture, and mentor engineers.

What you'll do

  • Ship customer-facing features on a weekly cadence.
  • Partner with design and product on scoping and trade-offs.
  • Drive technical quality through review, testing, and docs.
