Head of Engineering [NYC or SF]

About the role

This is a Head of Engineering opportunity with a New York clinical AI company that builds infrastructure which health systems, life sciences companies, payors and government agencies use to run patient-facing care. It is a generalist engineering leadership role owning application, backend and infrastructure, and data platform teams, setting technical direction and quality standards and working closely with the CTO on strategy. You’ll lead and grow engineering across those three areas, hire engineers and develop future leaders, and drive work from problem definition through deployment, balancing speed with reliability. You’ll guide system design and architectural tradeoffs, set engineering culture including code review and incident response, align with Applied AI, Forward Deployed and product teams on platform scope, and keep the team focused on reliability, security and privacy for patient data. The ideal candidate will have a track record of engineering leadership in strong engineering cultures, breadth across more than one of application, backend and infrastructure, and data platform, and experience managing engineers through hiring, mentorship and performance conversations. They will keep enough current technical depth for system design decisions. Healthcare experience is not required. Years of experience are not stated. This is an on-site role in New York City, with San Francisco as a secondary location. We're looking for someone curious, pragmatic, and eager to work across the stack with a small senior team. You'll own end-to-end delivery of major features, influence architecture, and mentor engineers.
