Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

This is a Senior Backend Engineer opportunity with an early-stage New York company building AI agents for healthcare front offices, handling scheduling, referrals, refills and billing questions and documenting results in the EHR. You’ll design and own backend services, data models and business logic for the AI agents, build multi-step asynchronous workflows with retries and failure handling, and own integrations with EHRs and legacy systems through APIs and RPA. You’ll build internal platform tooling for deploying customer assistants and implement authentication, authorisation and HIPAA-compliant architecture. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years building scalable backend systems in high-reliability environments, with strong skills in APIs, relational databases, async workflows and distributed systems. Security, auth and regulated-environment experience, including HIPAA, would be advantageous. This is an in-person role in New York City. We're looking for someone curious, pragmatic, and eager to work across the stack with a small senior team. You'll own end-to-end delivery of major features, influence architecture, and mentor engineers.
