Engineering Manager

About the role

This is an Engineering Manager opportunity with a Series B US fintech business that helps employers design and administer tailored employee benefits. It is not healthtech. The role leads Core Services, covering the ledger, decisioning, schedules, rules engine, HRIS integrations and authentication, and reports to the VP of Engineering. You’ll lead a team of 4 to 6 backend engineers, manage growth, feedback and hiring, own execution and sequencing, plan for operational load including incidents, and lead design reviews that enforce idempotency, auditability and safe retries. You’ll stay hands-on enough to review designs, prototype and debug critical systems, and use AI heavily in daily work. The stack is Python, Django, PostgreSQL, AWS and Docker, with React and TypeScript on client surfaces. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of software engineering experience and 2+ years leading teams of around 3 to 8 engineers, with strong Python and Django. Fintech, payments or ledger experience would be advantageous. This is a US remote-first position with company on-sites three times a year. We're looking for someone curious, pragmatic, and eager to work across the stack with a small senior team. You'll own end-to-end delivery of major features, influence architecture, and mentor engineers.
